Imagine having someone close to you a family member or loved one. You tell yourself you know them better than anyone else. Next thing you know one day they just suddenly take their own life out of nowhere. In reality, you didnt know anything about them and what they were thinking. People like this are not getting the help they need. Mental health is an issue that impacts millions of Americans directly or indirectly. Back in the 5th century, many cultures have viewed mental illness as a form of religious or demonic possession. In the 1840s, activist Dorothea Dix influenced for better living conditions for the mentally ill after witnessing the dangerous and unhealthy conditions in which many patients lived. Over a 40-year period, Dix successfully persuaded the U.S. government the building of 32 state psychiatric hospitals. Back in 1946 president, Harry Truman passed the National Mental Health Act, which created the National Institute of Mental Health and allocated government funds to mental health research. Don’t waste time! Our writers will create an original "Rogerian Argument Example: Mental Health" essay for you Create order The United States put a bigger focus on physical health than mental health. Which I understand there are terminal illnesses out there like, cancer or heart disease. Like for example, in 2018 an estimated 1,735,350 new cases of cancer will be diagnosed in the United States and 609,640 people will die from the disease. The government also stigmatizes mental Illness as the cause of violent acts which I understand also. There have been school shootings across the country. For example, the shooting that happened in Parkland, Florida in February of 2018. I can understand why people support physical health more than mental health, people tend to worry about the stuff they tend to so first hand. People don’t tend to take their time in the day to put concerns on stuff we can’t see, like the functioning of the brain. I understand not everyone is going to educate themselves about something they can’t see. When you go see a doctor for an annual checkup, they usually tell you what your physical symptoms are. And health care limitations are what limit a person to see a mental health specialist. So, I can see why you wouldn’t get any mental evaluation easily from your doctor. I also understand that Donald Trump released the Fiscal year 2019 budget. In the budget funding for high-quality special education services to children with disabilities. The budget invests $12.8 billion for IDEA formula grants to states to support special education and early intervention services. The budget also requests new investments to i mprove treatment for individuals suffering from serious mental illness. It’s a good thing that mental health is being a social concern as of now, but not only serious mental illnesses should only be concerned. I think everyone should have access to mental health and we should improve our resources to improve our understanding of mental health. Millions of people suffer from anxiety disorder, caused by everyday life altercations. Plus, women or men who get raped suffer from PTSD of the traumatic experience. So, do people who served in the military, usually something that reminds them of war triggers the disorder. On one hand, physical health is more funded and of more concern than mental health. On the other hand, I think mental health and its resources can be improved. First, I think mental health specialists should help educate the community with seminars to help educate people. Mental health promotion is another thing that can help improve resources. Mental health relies on professionals, and not on technology. For example, smartphones and tablets become more sophisticated, people are relying on a growing variety of mobile apps. Apps using evidence-based practices have the ability to transform a patient-provider relationship. Health care providers use apps to access clinically validated resources such as screening tools, make treatment decisions, and conduct referrals. For example, SAMHSA (substance abuse and mental health services administration) suicide safe app offers educational materials and includes a treatment locator. Virtual Reality technology continues to advance, enabling develo pers to more accurately simulate the real-world environment. One VR application is exposure therapy, which users are safely exposed to simulations that cause discomfort, often to treat people experiencing phobias or post-traumatic stress disorder. VR also appears to be heading in the right direction of stimulating therapy rather than stimulating external events. I also think the federal government should increase funding on mental health treat it like physical health care and not leave it out with less budget spending. With increased budget people would have more access to care and be less likely to end up in emergency, prison, homeless shelters, on the streets, or worse. Many who need treatment and actually receive it will likely recover completely or be able to control their symptoms enough to contribute to the economy by returning to work. This is not only good for the person who needs treatment, but also for their families, neighbors, and communities. While physical health is to be more of concern, mental health is too the mind is part of the body too so mental health shouldn’t be left out. We need to improve our understanding of mental health because it can affect us all were all human. We all deal with anxiety and stress every day its a part of our human nature it’s going to happen to us all. The more we understand our mind the better we are to cope with ourselves and less often have to deal with sad things like suicide.

A Time to Kill Essay Example For Students

A Time to Kill Essay By: John GrishamWhen is there ever a time to kill? Is it time when someone hurts you or your family? Is it okay if someone tries to kill you? A jury of twelve people must decide if there ever is such a time. Does race have a role in murder? If a white is tried for the same crime as a black person, should the verdict be different for the white person? Such are the questions the jury is faced with in the novel, A Time to Kill. Tonya Hailey a young black girl, daughter of Carl Lee Hailey, was raped by two white country rednecks. The author states that Tonya, was ten and small for her age. (21) The rednecks bound her hands with nylon rope and her right foot was secured to an oak tree. Her face was bloody and swollen, with one eye swelled up completely and the other shut enough that she could not view the man in the truck. She also could not see the man on top of her. He was on top of her breathing hard, sweating, and cursing at her. When he was finished he slapped her and laughed. The man in the truck also began laughing until they both were on the floor rolling like crazy men. Then, as it got late, her family got worried and started to search for her. They called Ozzie, the only black sheriff in the state, to start a search for her. She was finally found near on old bridge by a couple a Niger fishin. She was crying for her daddy. She uttered in broken words who her father was. They then returned her home to her mother and awaiting brothers. When the case of the two rapists came to court a local lawyer Jake Brigance, is asked by one of the accused rapists mothers to defend the men. Jake turns down the case. He was unable to accept the case because he had previously represented Carl Haileys brother. The rapists found another lawyer and the case proceeded. The two men were tried but found not guilty. Right after the trial the two accused rapists, Billy Ray and Willard, were shot. Tonyas father Carl Hailey was the one accused of killing the two men. Jake Brigance is once again contacted because he was considered to be the family lawyer for the Haileys. Jake Brigance started the proceedings and bond was set at half of a million dollars for Carl Lee. Carl could not post bail so therefore he spent the duration of the trail in jail. Jake hires a new twenty something paralegal looking for experience in the courtroom. She is willing to work for free in exchange for training. Jake Brigances prized house is set on fire by the K.K.K . for defending a black man, Carl Lee, accused of killing two white men. After several tiring sessions in court, Jake Brigance watches his client Carl Hailey walk out of the Mississippi court room, a free man. John Grisham wrote A Time to Kill to show how the legal system, society, and people place an important emphasis and are bias to one particular race. He tires to show that we all in the court of law should be treated as equals and race should have no affect on the rulings. It unfortunately still does have an effect on many trials. I disliked the way that he chooses a southern state. Although racism was more prevalent in the south during that period, I believe that it does not show that racism is a problem throughout the world not just the south. I read that this book was inspired by actual events, that he had studied during his years in law school. Even so, I believe that the case should have been tired in another region. The basic act that he wrote about it being in the south is a prejudice against the south; the south has often been put down as extremely racist. .u2e2c956df8ecbc653803019642a72214 , .u2e2c956df8ecbc653803019642a72214 .postImageUrl , .u2e2c956df8ecbc653803019642a72214 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u2e2c956df8ecbc653803019642a72214 , .u2e2c956df8ecbc653803019642a72214:hover , .u2e2c956df8ecbc653803019642a72214:visited , .u2e2c956df8ecbc653803019642a72214:active { border:0!important; } .u2e2c956df8ecbc653803019642a72214 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u2e2c956df8ecbc653803019642a72214 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u2e2c956df8ecbc653803019642a72214:active , .u2e2c956df8ecbc653803019642a72214:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u2e2c956df8ecbc653803019642a72214 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u2e2c956df8ecbc653803019642a72214 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u2e2c956df8ecbc653803019642a72214 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u2e2c956df8ecbc653803019642a72214 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u2e2c956df8ecbc653803019642a72214:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u2e2c956df8ecbc653803019642a72214 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u2e2c956df8ecbc653803019642a72214 .u2e2c956df8ecbc653803019642a72214-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u2e2c956df8ecbc653803019642a72214:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: In the work Utopia, which is a product of imaginati EssayI would recommend this book to any one of my friends who enjoy a suspenseful yet gruesome and grotesque opening that leads to a sickly gratifying ending. The midpoint of the book gets dull because the action does not move that much. Then the story jumps to a death or a burning. The Klan is always popping up to warn witnesses or the jurors families not to let that nigger or his lawyer off. (254) The story overall is great and I really liked the book.

Wayne Gretzky Essays (999 words) - Wayne Gretzky, Pacific Division

Wayne Gretzky COMPARE TWO BIOGRAPHIES OF WAYNE GRETZKY In this essay, I need to compare two biographies of a famous person. I will plot out the difference and compare the two books considering point of view, bias, aim, omission, interest and interpretation. This person is my hero and idol. He is one of the great player in the history of hockey. He set the all-time NHL scoring record in 26 seasons and got four Stanley cup in a row from 1984-1988. He is Wayne Gretzky, the most brilliant and talent hockey player in this century. Ichose the Gretzky and Taylor and Gretzky with Rick Reilly. The book Gretzky with Rick Reilly was an autobiography. It showed how Wayne Gretzky from his AHL to a famous NHL player. In this book, there were a lot of Gretzky's childhood. We knew that Wayne Gretzky could skate at two years old. He was well known by people at six. When he was ten, he was signing autographs and had a national magazine article written about him. A thirty- minutes national television show done on him at fifteen. It also talk about Gretzky's hero when he was a kid. He was a funny guy. He was Gretzky's hockey instructor. He was also his lacrosse, baseball basketball and cross country coach. He was not only coach, but also trainer and chauffeur. Gretzky called him dad, his name was Walter. However, in the book Gretzky and Taylor, it did not show anything in Gretzky's childhood. It was started when Gretzky became the NHL player, a member of Edmonton Oiler's rookie. How he became the hall of the frame. The description of this book was very interesting. The writer show the thing through the game. For example the first chapter was talking about the 1984 Stanley Cup final between the Edmonton Oilers and New York Islander. Wayne, he said, don't worry about not scoring so far. Just make sure that when you do get a goal for us is a big one. (Page 15 Gretzky and Taylor ) From this conversation, we could know what had happen at that time. So, there was different between the point of view of those two books. Although this two books had the different point of view, they both had the same aim. They also showed to young people that worked hard was the only source of success. In the book Gretzky with Rick Reilly, Gretzky showed his talent when he was young. He was national knew at six. There was even a wild rumors that the New York Rangers were going to buy the entry Brantford Pee Wee franchise, so that they had the right to take him when he turn the greater. But behind the success, did you know how much Gretzky put on the hockey. In the winter, Gretzky would get in the mourning, skated from seven o' clock to eight- thirty, went to school, came back home at three thirty, stayed on the ice until his mother ready the dinner, ate in his skater, then went back out until nine o' clock. On Saturday and Sundays, he would have games played with his neighborhood. So looked how much times that Gretzky put on the practice and that time he was six. Also in the book Gretzky and Taylor, because of Brantford, the home of Wayne Gretzky. He left home at fourteen. He moved to Toronto, playing with the Toronto Young Nationals, Junior B. The years in Toronto were no way for a kid. He was lonely, living without family. But why Gretzky chose to do this? It was because he could go to school and nobody knew who he was and he would play better hockey. So now we can see how Gretzky was so successful. We could clearly see the omission between these tow book. It was because the Gretzky and Taylor was published in 1984, there was a great omission in Gretzky's life. This thing happened in 1988, the Edmonton Oilers wanted to tread Gretzky to L.A. Kings. That was the most important trade in the NHL. The book Gretzky with Rick Reilly was published in 1900. So it had some more detail in this event. After the Oilers had won
